Waggonbau Niesky unveils its first freight car for Swiss Post

The Sächsische Zeitung newspaper reports that 55 cars ordered are now ready for series production following successful first article inspection – with WBN operating at full capacity.

Niesky freight cars are known for their durability and easy handling. The company is using rust-proof aluminium in its order for Swiss Post to ensure that the lightweight postal cars can withstand the wind and weather throughout the Alpine nation, and to allow the sliding doors to be easily opened and closed by just one person.

The cars have been designed to specific customer requirements: a total of 22 slogans appear in white on the yellow sides in all three of Switzerland’s official languages – and in Rumantsch, the standardised written language in the Canton of Grisons.

Major orders like this one are currently keeping Waggonbau Niesky operating at full capacity. Together with a partner company, the firm is also working on long-term expansion into the Chinese market.
